Spectacular Waterfalls from Around the World

My parents separated when I was about 5-years-old, and they had a custody agreement which if memory serves me well meant that my father would have us every other weekend, and paid my mother something like $75 a month in child support. That was back in the mid 60s in case anybody is wondering.

On the weekends when my father had my brother, sister and I, we spent a lot of time driving to different places my dad’s cool car.

I can’t remember the make or model, but it was a convertible with big fins on the back.

Anyway, one of the many road trips my father took us on was a trip to Niagara Falls for a foot long hotdog. I don’t know how many times he took us there, but we never grew tired of going there, and long after my father was longer a part of our lives, I returned to Niagara Falls many times.

It’s been a few years since I was last there, at least seven anyway, but if ever the opportunity presents itself again, I won’t say no to returning to Niagara Falls. I would really like to take my wife and stepchildren there, but Niagara Falls is more than half-a-world away from Australia.

Niagara Falls aside; here are the other waterfalls I would like to visit:

Angel Falls, Venezuela-the world’s tallest waterfall is located in a remote jungle in southeast Venezuela and attracts a lot of base jumpers.

Huka Falls, New Zealand-Not far from home for me. It is only 30 feet high, but the water explodes over the top. Actress Kate Winslet and the world’s richest man, Bill Gates been there. The way I see it, if it is good enough for them to visit, it has to be good enough for me to visit. Too bad I didn’t have Gates money to spend.

Jog Falls, India-Apparently the best time to go is during monsoon season (August to December), because that is when Jog is at its strongest. Accommodations aren’t all that great though. There are for cascades: the Roarer, the Queen, the Rocket, and the King. They are aptly named after their most prominent characteristic.

Iguazu Falls, Brazil/Argentina-The falls served as the backdrop for the last the Indiana Jones movie. The Iguazu National Park is a World Heritage site. For accommodation, the Hotel das Cataratas is located right beside the falls, all 270 of them.

Trou de Fer, Reunion-Located on a tiny French Island of the southern tip of Africa. Its name translates to Iron Hole. The best view is from above the waterfall. Helicopter tours are on offer from DoDo Travels. The helicopter pilot will even take you down into the Iron Hole for a swim if you like.

Svartivos, Iceland-80 feet high. The black, lava-formed columns that the water cascades down and around inspired the architect who designed Iceland’s largest church, Hallgrimskirkja.

Yosemite Falls, California-The highest waterfall in North America. Its strongest roar occurs in May, and stops flowing in late summer.

Plitvice, Croatia-Located in Plitvice Lakes National Park, another World Heritage site. Complete with wooden footbridges across the water. It’s a two-and-a-half-hour bus ride from Zagreb.

Victoria Falls, Zambia/Zimbabwe-It is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, but I think for myself I might pass on this one if only because it is too close to Zimbabwe, a very dangerous and unpredictable place to be in my opinion. I certainly wouldn’t be taking my stepchildren there that’s for sure.
